The main bearing firmly holds the crankshaft in place and therefore halts the forces created by the piston and transmitted to the crankshaft by the connecting rods from dislodging the crankshaft. This action instead forces the crank to convert the movement into rotation. The heavy wall main bearing contains a heavier wall in order to withstand greater pressure/force.
